Highlighting ROAM Gallery Artist
Joy Singbeil, nee Peirson - Painter
Joy was born into a somewhat eccentric scientific family in England. She always had a strong interest in the arts and creativity was and continues to be a major passion in her life. Although discouraged to follow her artistic dreams she did manage to be the student representative on the Arts Committee at Exeter University, UK , responsible for buying art to be on display at the University buildings. She moved to B.C. in the early seventies and became a successful Batik artist, selling her work at various venues including Circle Craft. She soon had a steady list of clients. Life was altered completely when she accepted a teaching job with the Surrey School Board. Travel and children born in 1983 and 1985 became her main focus. In 2000 she went back to university at SFU and gained her Fine Arts Diploma. She returned to the school district to teach Art/Drama/English at Earl Marriott High School in 2002. After retiring from the Surrey School Board in 2007 she left to teach in Cambodia and then the United Arab Emirates. It was in the UAE she met her future husband Nick Peacock. ( She recently returned toAl Ain in the United Arab Emirates for a very successful solo Art Show and was featured in a local magazine “The Oasis” . ) They both returned to Vancouver where she now shares Studio space on East Hastings. Her paintings are in both watercolour and acrylic and are inspired by Vancouver scenes and the local area. She chooses vivid colours and impressionist style. If she had to choose a theme for her work it would be Vancouver through my eyes. Website: joypeirsonart.com
