Highlighting ROAM Gallery Artist
Golfo Tsakumis - Painter
An immigrant from a picturesque seaside village in Greece to Canada’s majestic west coast, Golfo has evolved as an artist over the years and her different artistic projects reflect her rebirth at various stages of her life. She is a proud wife, mother, and grandmother, and this, as well as her European heritage, are both her greatest inspiration, and greatest motivation, in creating art. Golfo’s initial foray onto the creative expression stage began in 1985 as the owner of Golfo’s Flowers in Vancouver. Her floral shop quickly became a favourite amongst the local community, with unique and quality arrangements that showcased her passion and flair for making living art. A thrilling moment in her career as a florist was when she was selected to adorn the Royal Suite of Prince Charles and Princess Diana during the Royal couple’s Expo 86 tour in Vancouver. Always looking for the next challenge, Golfo decided to put her creativity onto canvas. Over the last twenty years, Golfo has experimented with a variety of painting mediums including acrylic, watercolor, and oil. She has studied from and been mentored by, some well-known local artists to further hone in on her natural talent. A proud active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists since 2010, Golfo continues to expand her craft, experimenting on different surfaces with acrylics, and educating herself in ways that push her to discover new techniques and elevate her creative skillset in new, unexplored areas of painting. Golfo’s work thus far has been a bold mix of styles ranging from impressionism to contemporary. There is a sophisticated feel to all of her paintings through a balance of color, composition, and texture. However, it is in abstract painting that her most authentic self emerges. She loves the courage and freedom that abstract painting gives her, as the artist, and the viewer as well. Golfo has been a proud member and featured artist of the Roam Gallery since 2013. Her work has been exhibited at the Vancouver International Art Show, and in 2021 she held her first solo show at the Art Couture Gallery in White Rock, BC. She has received international recognition with awards of excellence for the Circle Arts Foundation. Golfo currently lives with her husband, and creates her art out of her private residence, in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Her work is featured in public and private collections. She is now an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and is also currently serving as a member of the Arts and Letters Committee with The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Centre for the Hellenic Studies of Simon Fraser University.
