Highlighting ROAM Gallery Artist
Golfo Tsakumis - Painter
Born in Nafpaktos, Greece, Golfo Tsakumis moved to Vancouver, Canada in 1970 to start a family with husband Bill and was already involved in artistic endeavours early on while raising her five children.
As the owner of Golfo’s Flowers in Vancouver, Golfo had a passion for building living art with her creative and well known floral arrangements and unique designs. As Golfo’s Flowers quickly became a favourite for locals, she gained global recognition when she was selected to adorn the Royal Suite with her designs during the Royal Couple’s Expo 86 visit.
Always looking for the next challenge, she decided to put her creativity onto canvas. Over the last twenty years, Golfo has experimented with a variety of paintings including acrylic, watercolors, and oil. She further honed her natural ability through studying and learning from several well known local artists.
After many years of painting, Golfo moved forward experimenting on different surfaces with acrylics. This pushed her to expand her horizons and tap into new areas of paintings that she had not yet explored. There is an obvious freedom and personal expression with abstraction which reflects in her new collection.
Golfo’s ultimate inspiration continues to surface through her European heritage, her life in Canada and her children and grandchildren from which she draws the greatest motivation to create beautiful art. She brings a sophisticated feel to her paintings through a unique balance of color, composition and texture. Her work is featured in private and public collections.
Today, Golfo’s work is a bold mix of styles ranging from impressionism to contemporary.
She is now an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and is also currently serving as a member of the Arts and Letters Committee with The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Centre for the Hellenic Studies of Simon Fraser University.
