Highlighting ROAM Gallery Artist
Sara was born in the small town of Castlegar, BC. Her mother a nurturing Registered Nurse, and her father a smart, practical businessman; she had a well-balanced upbringing. She came late to art, after a varied career in technology in the gambling, penitentiary and banking industries.Throughout her early career, Sara experienced a multitude of wealthy and suffering, thought-provoking individuals. She lived in Las Vegas where she observed those with extravagant lifestyles and those who went from all to nothing. She visited several US prisons and walked the sinister halls of many correctional facilities. She also discovered the not-so-thrilling, but measured bureaucratic environment of a large international bank.
This part of her career gave Sara a unique perspective on society and peoples’ emotions which has been key to portraying what she does on canvas. Gardner rarely runs out of inspiration. In her mind, the world is colourful, but also so simple if you break it down. She is impressed and humbled by the work of many artists and has gained many talented mentors along her path, which she will always be grateful for.
Sara lives with her husband and two young children in West Vancouver and paints full-time. People who like her work often make observations regarding her distinctive use of neutral colours, texture, and evocative objects in her paintings.
Today Sara Gardner’s work can be found in many private collections throughout North America and she has also exhibited in Europe.
