Highlighting ROAM Gallery Artist
Mike Levin - Painter
Mike Levin, who has been painting all his life, sees art as a vehicle to transport ourselves from the mundane to the extraordinary. He aims to capture what he sees and fuse that together with his internal vision and share that through his painting. “I try to evoke the magic of the complex reality that surrounds us every day.” Mike’s paintings derive from diverse subject matter such as landscapes, portraiture, music and his imagination. Art is meditation for Mike; it takes him to a better world where his life rarely interferes.
Artistic influences include Piet Mondrian, Peter Doig, Gordon Smith, Tom Thompson, and Richard Diebenkorn. Mike, a 4th year student in painting at Emily Carr University, also teaches drawing and painting at The Art Studios and at Vancouver General Hospital.
Other than painting, his hobbies include fishing, hiking, and playing the saxophone and clarinet.
Mike's art has been sold in Canada and the USA to private collectors.
