Highlighting ROAM Gallery Artist
Jemma Jacksen - Artist and Author
Jemma resides in Vancouver BC and works out of her south Granville Studio. She attended UBC and received a Bachelor Of Science in Pre-Med, majoring in Science and Art. AT age 29 she had life saving open heart surgery and this eventually lead to a career as a Cardiac Tech helping others. Jemma practices all sorts of styles and use of materials in producing art and has been an artist since the tender age of 4. She can create anything from photorealism, impressionistic to abstract but feels abstract should only be done at the top of ones game when they know all the rules to break em.!
Her goal at this stage is have the viewers feel her art rather than make an image out of it, this
she achieves with her colourful & Zen abstracts. Her florals give an impressionistic and relaxing feel. Her work can range from the colourful & dramatic to the Zen, depending on what she chooses to create and her mood. There is real variety in styles and techniques with her work as she doesn’t feel limited by anything and is not told what to create by anyone, she can do anything and do it all. She has absolute freedom as an artist and enjoys this. She practices acrylic, oil, pastel, pencil or mixed media.! !
Training with World famous portrait pastelist Harley Brown, he taught her colour & portraiture and she also did a workshop with Robert Bateman back in her 20’s when she studied wildlife.
She did a workshop with Harley Brown in Fiji when she was only 25 years old, he remains her mentor and Best Friend. She also did workshops with Robert Genn and Jack Shadbolt.
Jemma’s Art is collected worldwide and is popular with Designers and Film. While some art can make a political point and be dark, Jemma prefers to fill the world with soothing and happy feelings, something that is easy to live with and enjoy. She is also a published author having written one book and three more on the way.
Jemma balances art with her Cardiac Career and writing. Jemma is a photographer too. She is truly living all her passions and is a strong advocate for the homeless on top of all that. It will be interesting to see how her career(s) move through the following years.!
She plans an autobiography with a biopic in the future too.!
On display in this profile is a selection of work thru the years, culminating in the abstract.! !
Jemma welcomes commissions, especially large ones.
