Highlighting ROAM Gallery Artist
Debbie Halyk - Painter
I have lived nearly all my life in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, Canada. I create in pencil, pen, pastel, watercolor, acrylic and mixed media. Lately, I have painted more so with acrylic. My environment, the surrounding world of the West Coast, as well as travels in BC and beyond is my motivator.
Over a decade, I have devoted time to art, my first love. Initially my work evolved by taking classes with local teachers and working with mentors to study and hone my abilities. This expanded into several years along with pursuing master copying and dedicating myself to self-teaching practices, which is still ongoing. Also, I value and am inspired by the classics and impressionism and have been doing research in these eras and styles.
In my compositions, nature, places and connections are usual subjects. But always, added in are developing elements of my mind’s reflections and intuitive experiences. As my creative process emerges and flows, I strive to include spirit, detail, and vibrancy using expressive markings. Then, and with all the previous intersecting features, my objective is to incorporate a “mood” on completion.
I seek to create unique works from my home in Coquitlam. Artists that I am inspired by are too numerous to note. Although Van Gogh and Rembrandt, I could name in this group without hesitation.
