Highlighting ROAM Gallery Artist
Daniel R. Mahon - Painter
My art centers around color, light, and the capture of a moment. I’m not typically attempting to tell a story rather I aim to capture what is. Strong strokes and powerful colors, wanting even the greys and to have a depth to them. I’m all for letting the brain fill in the little details, and the direction of a stroke or the little dab of light will be the trigger to make that happen.
I’m very much drawn to the Russian Impressionists, such bold color and light! I’ve gotten to train with Cheri Christiansen and Don Sahli- both of whom have Sergei Bongart in their lineage. Because of the support and teaching from friends and family I feel I was able to get so much more from those experiences, and I am so thankful.
You may have also noticed that I appear to like cats. This is true. Very much so. Jack (the orange and white guy- and technically ‘Captain Jack Redshirt’) was along with his brother Finn was my first kitten. He was also the subject of my first oil painting. It was a happy success, and well, if it aint broke don’t fix it! I’ve started to expand to human based portraiture- what normal people call - ‘portraiture’, as well as landscapes, however, I suspect it will be a rare time when more than 3 paintings go by and there are no cats. Cats!
