Highlighting ROAM Gallery Artist
Brent VandenBroek - Painter
Brent is an emerging Canadian artist who works primarily with acrylic paint on canvas. His work often emphasizes contrast, depth of field and motion. Influenced by his engineering background and originally inspired by artists such as M.C. Escher, Bridgette Riley and H.R. Geiger, he began his painting career in the Op Art genre. He picked up a paint brush for the first time three years ago and immediately directed his focus on photorealism, a genre that exploits his precision and attention to detail.
More recently, he has ventured into textured and abstract work. Continually experimenting with new tools, techniques and across all genres is what motivates and teaches him as he patiently waits for his individual ‘style’ to emerge. Brent has recently begun painting and pursuing his art as a full time occupation, learning as he goes.
‘You don’t have to like my art, as long as it makes you feel something, I’ve done my job.’
