Highlighting ROAM Gallery Artist
Brad Smith - Painter
Hi, my name is Brad Smith, I was born in Kings Cross, Sydney, Australia in the early 1940’s and emigrated to Canada in the mid 50’s.
I began my career in the advertising industry at the age of 15 as a sign writer for a department store. Parallel to my advertising career I started formal artistic training with my mentor H. Faulkner Smith in Vancouver, BC. About that same time in my life I began my marriage and family, so the dreams of an artist were shelved until my retirement. I moved approximately 10 years ago to Pitt Meadows, BC, a city that inspires me, where I finally started listening to my calling as an artist, learning to trust that inner voice that compels me to create.
My style is constantly evolving and influenced by the world around me, that is at times chaotic, always inspiring, and never boring. My artwork revolves around the natural life and makes use of a more detailed approach resulting in images that are structured and precise while also deep and thought provoking. I have a natural affinity for detail and many, if not all of my artworks will contain extensive work on the story, the image and the purpose. My paintings are done very realistically, and are painted with traditional acrylic on canvas.
I believe we are all innately artistic‚ it is the courage to do it that makes us artists.
